The 100th Precinct Community Council’s Eighth Annual Chili Cook-Off, set to take place on Friday, April 28 at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 333 Beach 90th St. The Wave’s Mark Healey will be a judge again this year and recommends that spicy is always better than sweet. The evening will include raffles, prizes and a 50/50. Tickets are $20 and children under 12 enter for free. For tickets, call 718-634-4970 or 917-284-0410.

On Thursday, April 13, New York State Senator Joseph P.Addabbo, Jr., will be at the Broad Channel Library, at 16-26 Cross Bay Blvd., in Broad Channel, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. to meet with residents wishing to talk with him about a problem they may be having or to bring a community issue to light. Additional mobile office hours will also be held, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the following locations: April 20 - Howard Beach Library (92-06 156th Ave.) and on April 27 - Peninsula Library (92-25 Rockaway Beach Blvd.)

The Broad Channel Beautification Committee is holding a Photo Contest:“We are looking for photos, old or new, that exemplify Broad Channel at its best; it uniqueness, charm and community appeal. (people, places, activities, etc.) Entries will be accepted from April 1 to June 1.You can submit up to three (3) photos, but only one per e-mail. Send them to broadchannelphoto@gmail.com. Include your full name and e-mail address. There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize plus one for black & white entries. By submitting an entry, you give the sponsor (the BCBC) the right to re-use, copy and/or publish the photos at will.” (some may be printed in the Historical Calendar).

On Saturday, April 22, there will be a Bishop McDonnell High School Reunion at the former site of the high school, 260 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn.The Classes of the 1930’s, ’42, ’47, ’52, ’57, ’62, ’67, and ’72 are being celebrated, but all graduates are welcome. The doors open at 11 a.m., there is free parking behind the building and in the lot behind the Brooklyn Museum. Sgt. Keith Gallagher, formerly of the NYPD's 101st Precinct, has been accepted into the NYPD Special Operations Emergency Service Unit. Outstanding!

New York City’s Department of Transportation wants to know how your daily commute is. Since so many of the DOT presentations at local civics and CB14 meetings often seem to lack substance, why not take them up on it? The link to the survey is transitplannyc.org.

The Roy Reuther Senior Center, located at 711 Seagirt Ave., in Far Rockaway, is hosting a Chinese Buffet on Wednesday, April 19, at 10:30 a.m. On Thursday, April 20, at 11:00 a.m., there will be a Birthday Party, and on Friday, April 21, nutritionist Stephanie Cordaro will host a Managing Diabetes workshop. As always, a hot Kosher lunch is served every day at 12:00 p.m. with a salad alternative. Reservations are required for all meals the day before. All seniors are invited to participate in all activities. Guests are welcome. Thanks to the support of the New York City Council, a Mobile Care Clinic providing No Cost Digital Mammograms and Clinical Breast Exams will be at the Joseph Addabbo Family Health Center, 1288 Central Ave. in Far Rockaway on Friday, April 7, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. For an appointment, call 877-628-9090. Eligibility: Women aged 40 and older with health insurance, women aged 50 and older without health insurance. Those eligible must be currently living in New York City and have not had a mammogram in the past 12 months.

The next meeting of the 101st Precinct Community Council will be held on April 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the CenterLight Health Center, 1821 Cornaga Ave.
